Ok fellas im posting this over here because nobody knows more about rod blanks then the guys posting on this board.I know all about rod materials and what not to do with each one. When swinging a fish over the rail of a party boat I usually will point the rod down at the water and make one swooping motion up and open the spool on my reel as I have the fish moving up and towards me.I hold the spool but usualy am prepared to slack up if I slam a big doggie into the rail.I hold the rod at the end of the fore grip may even hold the begining of the but wrap but no further down the rod,I also drop the rod tip as fast as possible before any undo weight is put on the tip.
The reason im asking is I have wathched numerous people grab the rod 1/2 way down and towards the first guide when swinging fish.I thought this was a big no,no as it now puts all thge pressure on the foward part of the blank wich is now cut in 1/2 instead of evenly distributing it across the whole blank.
I explained to someone the other day that he should be careful swinging a fish that way with your hand out towards the first guide especially with a graphite rod.Anyway he got annoyed, kind of nasty to tell you the truth.I then simply stated have a nice day my coolers full and I will give my extra fish to some one else
.Well I didn't make a friend lol.I was also just watching the celtic Quest cod video in the fishing reports forum and I watched 2 anglers at the end of the video swing fish by holding the rod towards the first guide.
Hey I don't know everything but try to do things rite,so can someone that has more knowledge than me tell me whats rite and wrong.Ive been lucky so far and have had no breakages by myself, different story when friends have grabbed my rods.
Thanks in advance,
Rob
