Colossal Squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni), Giant Squid (Kondakovia longimana)

Unlike the giant squid, whose tentacles are equipped with suckers lined with small teeth, the suckers at the tips of the Colossal Squid's tentacles have sharp swiveling hooks. I think I'll confine my squid fishing to ones that don't hurt back (at least not much) and are generally smaller than I am.

 

Looks like Kil and I will be packing the big squid jigs for our trip to NZ in April.

Going to need an over sized container of wasabi and soy sauce too

 

That would give you enough squid strips for a few seasons

 

Imagine that thing poppin up next to you and eyeballing you for lunch while your fishing from your 26 footer

 

Forget a look, imagine if that thing slid an arm over your gunnel to get a little taste

 

And the book on them is that they can be very aggressive feeders. Getting stuffed into the maw of a 40 ft squid, geezzz, what a way to go
