Save the Date for the First Annual Recreational Fishing Tournament out of the Port City of New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, MA — March 2011  
The first annual recreational fishing tournament to be held out of the port city of New Bedford is scheduled for June 17-18, 2011, with Pope’s Island Marina serving as home base. Proceeds from the charity tournament, called Fishing for a Cause, will benefit the Schwartz Center for Children. A limited number of complimentary boat slips are available and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis; early registration is encouraged. Registration deadline is June 1, 2011.

This inaugural year event will include an elegant catered seaside dinner gala under a tent on Friday, June 17th at 6p.m.  The Gala will be catering by Russell Morin Fine Catering and will include live music, celebrity guests, silent and live auctions and more.  Family-fun activities are planned for Saturday, June 18th, on the water and at the park on Pope’s Island. The two-day event will conclude with an Awards Ceremony and family-style barbeque at 5p.m. on Saturday.  Registration for the fishing tournament includes access to all events.  Additional tickets can be purchased for those not participating in the tournament. The Fishing for a Cause is a bluefish, striper, and fluke tournament, with trophies awarded to anglers bringing in the highest weight total for each species. The event is open to all size recreational fishing boats.  The tournament schedule is lines-in at 12:01a.m. and return to marina at 4:00p.m. on both days. Participants are encouraged to register early, as the number of boats that can participate is limited.
