Fishermen’s Conservation Association 2006 Manhattan Cup

On Friday, May 19, 2006, the Fishermen’s Conservation Association (FCA) will host the Manhattan Cup “catch and release" fishing tournament in New York City. The FCA Manhattan Cup consists of forty professional fishing guides who provide their boats and expertise to individual teams competing for the largest striped bass, bluefish and weakfish among three categories (fly, artificial and bait). In addition, a "sport fishing" division involving private boats and crews will compete. The boats leave Chelsea Piers at 1:00 pm and return at 7:30 pm. After fishing, a Mardi Gras inspired awards ceremony, complete with a classic Cajun crawfish boil, fish fry and Zydeco band, will begin at the Chelsea Brewing Company, located at Pier 59 on the Hudson River.

Financial support of FCA will directly benefit New York, New Jersey and Connecticut's marine waters. The association's immediate priorities include gamefish status for striped bass, fighting the proposed dumping of toxic waste in Jamaica Bay, beach access and promoting “Hooked-for-a-Lifetime”, a children’s fishing program.
