I was 12 years old & didn't have the money for Kastmasters. We were catching rediculous numbers of 5-pound bluefish & I ran out of metal. I went home & took every pair of nail clippers in the house. Broke 'em in half & put a hook on one end - voila! Instant lure.

Now there's a great topic, Steve...I'm on my way out the door to Thanksgiving dinner w/family (thought I'd check the forum one time before I left) but your post reminded me of all the screwy stuff I ended up with as a kid because there wasn't any money around to buy lures...first thing comes to mind is my dad soldering guides on an old fencing epee (sword with four sided blade) and mounting a Shakespeare conventional reel loaded with that old black nylon line that would turn your skin to burnt leather if you tried thumbing the spool while the line was dry...anyways, the rod worked just fine...until I kicked it accidently and watched it fly off the end of the dock I was fishing from...8 or 9 years old and cried all the way home...
