Well I was looking at all my reels and was wondering which one truly stood out as a new innovation and was made with excellent craftsmanship as well as design. The one which stood out in my mind the most was the Abu 10,000c. This reel is an automatic 2 speed design with all the power you?ll ever need in a reel this size. I never owned a good working one till I just recently picked up another one to mix and match parts to get 1 good reel out of it. Now that it is 100% I cannot believe the power this reel has in the crank. The only down fall is the weight of the reel. The reel weighs with a full spool of line 640.grams which is quite heavy for a reel this size. But besides that the reel is one of the greatest pioneer designs for Abu I have ever seen . These reels are hard to come buy and if you do run by one don?t pass it up. Now that I have shared one of my favorite reels (I bet you though I was going to say Newell) Lets hear about some of yours and why?

Squidder 140

My first nice reel. Then I picked up a Newell kit at a Ramsey closeout for $10 What a caster.

My second nice reel was an Abu 7000. Another great casting reel. But I'm not a fan of levelwinds.

Both reels were stolen many moons ago.

Is the first reel when I stepped from a can with string
My first outfit which I still have today
A Garcia Mitchell 300 and a 7ft Brunswick Rod
As a kid with this outfit I fished for everything From Strippers off the coney Island jettys to the Goverment Piers, to casting jitter bugs At Sodom for largemouths to catching gold fish at Prospect Park Park.

my father has an old penn surfmaster reel this reel is great smooth retrive and a great drag its his only reel he uses for light tackle its gotta be over 20 years old looks brand new

Abu 2-speed

I collect all the abu 2speeds .All parts are still available from Abu.
Also you can buy aftermarket drag washers that greatly increase the proformance of the 9000&10000.

even the cheaper "NINE" and "TEN" have given me great service, very light as well. Powerful from a cranking standpoint, the swiss know something about making gear sets.

favorite oldie reel

i had this reel for a while the yellow Garcia Mitchell 600A. it looks like a squidder,asks like a squidder but it not a squidder, great for casting.(SMOOTH)....cat14361

Favorite Old reel

I have a squidder(red 140) that has to be 40 yrs old. My grandfather gave it to me before he died, with the old dacron line on it(Still works fine) He lived by Quincy, caught many a flounder with that reel
