Hmmmmmmmmmmm, tough one, I would have to say June, until of course July rolls around then I would say another month, but today, March 7th. looking out the window from my office at all the snow, it's June. I love the long days and great fishing, be it offshore lookng for the big slob Mako, whacking a few Bluefin Tuna that are pushing water heading east, a nice big bass in the inlet at night, or some big doormat Fluke, June has it all.

I'd pick the 30 day period beginning Nov. 15 and ending Dec. 15. This my favorite time to target my favorite species stripers, blackfish and sea bass. Also can fish bass in a variety of ways...bucktailing in Race and Gut, topwater plugs in Montauk rips, and baitfishing w/ive herring.

Second fave month is May...big fluke in the bay, big weaks in the bay, opening of striper seaon. It can't come soon enough this year.

Great topic.....

If i had to pic one, it would be May. Everything starts to come alive. Fluke season starts, oh and how i love them flukies. Crappies are in full spawn mode and eagerly awaiting my jig. The bucketmouths are spawning and wrecking havoc in the shallows. Flounder are in full feeding mode and good to go. Stripers are in full swing, from Montauk to W.E. 2. Can't forget the tog in the shallows, or the weakfish that are there for the taking.

Just a good time to be alive......

"Lock time in a bottle"

Sure, Sept 15 to Oct 15 easily wins.
The weather is perfect, the crowds are gone, the fish are co-operative. It's a great time to be alive.

BUT

After being cooped up all winter, cabin fever is an endless torment. The time between April 15 and May 15 is felt with more "gusto" than the warmer, pleasant Fall.

Now if I had to pick 30 days that would repeat forever, it would have to be the Fall. But the INTENSITY of those Spring outings are unmatched at any other time of year.

For me, that would be July 15 - August 15. Thats when me & the wife take most of our vacation. We get the food packed up, and take the kids & grandkids with us, and go fluking in the bay, during the weekdays when the weekend lunatics (with jetskis and no boater ed) aren't out.

Sometimes we spend the whole day on the water. When the tide stops, we have lunch at the Wharf. We come back around 6, someone will take a ride to Jordan's and pick up seafood meals while I clean the catch, and we chow down and hang out 'til sundown, while the grandkids have a ball with the snappers at the dock.

Every end of July we take our trip to Montauk with 3 couples, and enjoy the East End life - fishing on the Lazybones, (this year - morning fly fishing), shopping, John's pancakes, minigolf, the beach, checkin out the offshore catches, the hole in the wall movie, and - without fail, our stop at the Lobster Inn on the way home for a bowl of SPLAT!

Don't git no better than that! :)

It's gotta be June, fish are still on the move and hungry and not resident fish that saw every plug known to mankind. Think about it? For how many years have the really big fish been caught on average, 50's and some 60's from south shore inlets from beach or boat, some you never heard of that's for sure and whynot? For action I'll take Oct with the crowds. Prospector

Springs the thing

Gotta go with mid May to mid June. The Fall run can be amazing at times, but the sheer releif of getting out after a winter like this one ...for example... is like a rebirth. The fall feels more like a winding down, Spring gets me smilin' :) :) :)

I agree with Gamakatsu on this one. For me it would be mid october through the beginning of november. Stripers and blues on topwater, blackfish in shallow, sea bass all over the place, kingfish in the bay and sharks and tuna if you can get offshore. The air is cool and crisp but comfortable making the fishing even more enjoyable.

oct. 15- nov. 15-
bass are well fed, chasing bunker out/in the bays, poppers workin well, bigger fish on bunkers/eels, any fluke caught this time of year are usually "huge", gorilla blues, and after that 90degree plus summer, the cooler months ahead are a welcome...
