Yamaha hour meters

913 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Scalawag
I see from the Yammie outboard website the digital hour meter works when the engines running instead of the ignition on, a good thing .
Does anyone know if these things simply plug into the control harness if not how do they install?
Also where's the best place to buy one , internet or Freeport area. { K & K is out of stock}
thanks, Alan

ALAN, I BOUGHT AN AUTOMOTIVE METER. HOBBS IS THE CO. THIRTY BUCKS. YOU WILL FIND 3 EXTRA WIRES COMMING FROM THE CONTROL BOX, USE A TEST LAMP TO CK WHICH ONE IS HOT WHEN THE ENG IS RUNNING. I INSTALLED MINE WAY UP UNDER THE DASH SO IT STAYS DRY. I DONT KNOW WHERE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO MOUNT IT ON THE WHALER.

THANKS ALOT
You can get an hours meter at most marine stores, when you wire it to the ing. switch in the correct place it won't run. When you are not running why would you have the ing. turned on?

Good luck ! Capt. Dean on the Quick Release
Thanks for the replys & the ph. # for suffolk marine.
Nansea11, I dont know.. The yamaha website phrases it like that, more accurate maybe..
Your right though. Sometimes the switch can be left in the on position adding false info. to the total?? i dont know
I bought mine at Fred Challs in Freeport. $100.00 it hooks into the harness. It does only register the hours while the engine is running. And it matches the rest of the gauges on my dash
Bobbs, thanks im going bthere today.
Scored the meter @ Fred challs, was little more then a c note. I think its worth the extra bucks, a real quality digital gauge here as Bobbs said good to match the other yamaha gauges
hmmmmm only the best will do for us Yammie guys !!
he he he he ... oh boy
