trolling

A friend of mine came across some in Virginia. He was on a charter boat and the mate had a spoll of wire line that was coated with a rubber material. The wire line was very easy to handle.

If anyone knows where I can locate this I would greatly appreciate it.

why would a rubber coating change the characteristics of the way the wire acted ?

if it rusted, i could see your point.

but the rubber would not change how the wire would spool on your reel.

what the rubber coating will do is
INCREASE the diameter of the wire,
so you will have to put out more rubber coated wire to reach the same depth that regular wire would.
also the rubber coating will probably not be as slick as the wire itself, which will cause more drag and once again increase the amount of wire in the water needed.

like other have suggested maybe it was leadcore.
if you really dont like wire, try monel or the leadcore, i would try the leadcore first, "easiest" and most forgiving of the 3 to work with.

good luck

captnlp,
I have not seen this product, but I have fished with lead core. I like the wire better than the lead core, although the lead core might be easier. I'm with megalodon, in that I'm not sure what rubber coated line would do for you. What exactly did your friend like about this product ??

A friend of mine uses leader wire and think that is what you are talking about. It is a stainless 1x7 braided cable with black nylon. It is much more forgiving than wire but I'm not sure how close the sink rate is. He catches fish with it so that says something for it. In the catalog I am looking at they have only 30' coils and think that he may have contacted American wire direct to get a bulk spool. The brand name is Surflon.
