I remember using wire line for deep
water tile fishing
The wire line let you have the half wieght in sinkers it didn't stretch
less belly, and it keeps the bait on the bottom a lot closer to the boat
straight up and down when drifting then mono or braid.
So do you think because the main thing with deep water cod fishing is
to keep your jig on pounding the bottom for entire drift as straight up and down as you can get.
So wouldn't 50 or 60lb stainless fit the bill.
If you have sic guides on your rod the wire is no problem
The only thing that might turn people off is the wieght
What do you think?

tog pro, wire used to be the thing for deep tile fishing, but with the advent of superbraids, which have no stretch, tiny diameter (no belly), and incredible sensitivity, then why wouldn't you just use that instead of wire?

Because wire is heavy and acts like a sinker keeping the rig on the bottom longer staright up down during a drift.
With Braid you have to cast out far
and use a fast sinking jig to maximize your bottom pounding time before you have to reel up and
recast
I figure with 300 ft of wire acting like a sinker coupled with the wieght of the jig you wouldn't have to cast to keep bottom contact throught out the drift

Hi,

A good boat captain will keep his boat moving with the current no matter the wind direction thus your lines will stay under the boat when codfishing. This can be done by using a sea anchor (drift sock) which I use often or by motor drifting (capts who want to work do this). Motor drifting does work but is labor intensive and I have only seen top captains doing this while codfishing. Not for capts who like to read the newspaper or take a nap.

When the wind is just too much, Anchor is the only way out and if the current if flying, a good group of jiggers will take turns casting uptide and bouncing it back.

Capt. Marc
