OK guys I got my wife asking me when is she going Blue fishing.I love it, the issue is all my gear is non level wind. I showed her a spinning reel and she said OK get her one (it feels better). So what ideas do you guys have on this type of reel. Those Blues tear up more tackle than another fish. If any ideas on rods I'm good with that too.
Price range 150.00--200.00... Let's think light yet strong

I wouldnt be using a spinning reel for any type of large blue fish. I like the tiger series ocean rod with a penn senator 4/0 reel. Just my feel. If you are going for smaller bay blues then a spinning reel is fine. I am sure you can pick up a great setup for that price range.

Little over kill dont you think, the best reel conventional wise for blues is the jigmaster for spinning gear the spheros and the penn 850ss are good spinning reels

I have a couple of baitrunners

they are awesome reels for the money. I have a 3500 and 2 4500's. They take a beating and are very easy to maintain. I also have 2 sustains which are much more $$$$$ but are also very good reels. For rods ugly stick tigers. You can get out of a tackle shop with rod, reel and full spool for under $150 and be ready to fish. That's my go to setup for plugging/live-lining/snagging and chunking. It's the "go anywhere" setup. Good luck.

If you're fishing on party boats, a Penn Senator 112 on a Shakespear 20=50 pound rod will fill the bill nicely. Both take a lot of abuse, will handle even the biggest bluefish, and won't kill your wallet either.

I figure it would be ideal for chunking out the bait. I still need input on rods guys
