Sorry Mike, I can't help you on this one..;)

I like boats. They are cheaper than medication. They are cheaper than a shrink. They are my freedom, my ability to explore, my way of getting away.

When I'm on my boat, there are no speed traps, no Hondas with North Carolina plates near me, no traffic jambs, no rush hour, no tolls, no EZ pass, rarely a tailgater.

Geez, Life is good on a boat. I'm ready to set sail..

I love my boat / boats....

but can't stand the never ending money flow!

The only thing I have going for me is my boat has an 18 gallon tank and sips gas like a Yugo!

I hate all new boats because I can't afford any.... that I would want to buy that is...

I love going out on my boat!

I love fishing on my boat!

I love cruising to Fire Island on my boat!

I even love fixing-up and maintaining my boat (not necessarily repairing though)

But to answer your question.....Yes.....I hate boats......and I would most likely be a much happier and wealthier person if they did not exist......unfortunately....they do exist, and so, like some kind of drug addict I must have at least one.......and it consumes me!!!!!

I hate gas.

Put a gallon of gas in the bike yesterday. High test. 4 bucks a gallon. On land. Yeah, it is 3.69 but that is not really for a gallon, just another way they bend us over, that 3.69 buys only 9/10's of a gallon.

On land, yesterday I paid FOUR BUCKS FOR A GALLON OF GAS.

They have been doing this for so long that people forgot that the gas prices are for 9/10's of a gallon and not a full gallon. This is how they sneak it in, 4 bucks.

Gas is 4 bucks a gallon already. On land. Yeah it was super, regular will follow right behind in the next couple/few weeks.

I don't hate boats but I may wish I had a sailboat when I see the gas dock prices if I paid 4 bucks yesterday for a gallon of gas on land.

I'm right there with you as far as the gas prices are concerned, but I think the 9/10 stands for 9/10 of a cent, as in $3.699 or almost $3.70 /gal. At least thats what I always thought.

That's correct, the pumps meter out by the gallon and that price is per gallon. Want sticker shock, buy gas in Canada where the price is per liter!

I love boats.
They may be expensive and finicky.Something seems to break on almost every trip.Maintenance is a pain and cleaning the boat at the end of a long fishing day is a pain.
But.... my wife hates the boat and almost never comes.
I love boats.

most guys keep an 'adult' magazine in the crapper

I keep the current edition of Soundings there, and review boat porn with every dump. I actually scan the 30-50' listings, as if I will EVER have the money for something that grand.

This past weekend I spent the first $200 on boat supplies for the season. Can't wait to write the checks to the hauler and Mercruiser mechanic. Money, money, money. Not to mention the time involved in prepping and maintaining it.

NONE of my largest clients own boats. NOT A ONE!

At least my wife and kids like being out on the water

Skip, is that because they are savvy investors, or because they are prone mal-de-mer?

I was watching the tv show ship shape TV over the weekend, and they showed a product called Spray nine cleaner.. so I stopped by West Marine to give it a try. It was about (I forget the exact numbers) $27 for a gallon.. which I thought was a bit too much..
I went next door to an Ace hardware store and they had the same produce - Marine spray nine.. but it was like $17 a gallon.. so I bought it.. they also had hoses, nice buckets and other cleaning supplies at about 1/2 to 1/4 of what west marine had it for.
It adds up really fast.. so shop around!
