I recently read an article about this fish and it seems to be much like the crappie fishing I have done. Is there any truth to this?

I have lived on the south shore for several years know and this is the first time this species has caught my attention. I plan on fishing on foot in the Babylon and Lindenhurst areas if I can get some nice weather in the next couple of weekends.

Is there anything I need other than a fishing pole and boots to fish for them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

White perch fishing is a good way to cure that cabin fever. You should be able to find them in any tributary. I heard behind the taco bell in lindenhurst is holding some perch. I fish mostly out east for them. The hardest thing is to find them. Once you do, it's non stop action. They will circle away for awhile but usually come back. Once the tide starts to change you will have to find them again. I use a small lead head with a twisted tail grub tipped w/earth worm. A lot of guys use night crawlers. You will have to experiment with colors. Use an ultra light rod with 4lb. test and you will have a ball!!!

Used to fish the creek behind Sunken Medow State Park. Once was one of L.I. s top producer of big (1 1/2- 2 3/4 lbs) white perch. Might still be worth a shot. We used to average at least 50-75 per day using 4 lb test with a 1/16-1/8 oz round jighead tipped with 1/2 a nightcrawler. Just keep walking and casting until you find them. Waders are a must here.
