Hi,

I have a '96 Suzuki 140 hp 2 stroke outboard.
I started to get a whitish blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. I was told it needed to be adjusted because the mixture of gas and oil was to rich. Any suggestions before I start messing with the mixture. I was, also told that none of this can hurt the engine in the short term. just to keep checking the oil. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the advise. Isn't the smoke supposed to let up after the boat is warmed up? I don't really notice it while I'm moving. But it's pretty heavy once I put it into neutral.

A WORD OF CAUTION

the same thing was happenning to my 96 Johnson 200hp. It was smoking blue like crazy in nuetral. My mechanic said it was fine. So I ran it an out of nowhere the engine seized up. It was due to the fact that the engine wasn;t getting oil, yet the resevior was 3/4 full. I would recomend having someone qualified look at it if you aren't sure of what your doing.

Thanks fot the advise. 0ver the weekend I adjusted the mixture more lean. The amount of smoke decreased. I can still see some smoke when the engine is in neutral. I'll chaulk this up as normal. As per the warning from the last post, I felt the water coming out of the water pump. It's pretty warm. Not too hot that I can't put my hand to it. There is, also plenty of water spitting out the back. How hot should the water be coming out of the water pump? It seems like my problem was just an adjustment. I'm just asking this question to verify the problem is solved and not merely made worse.

Thanks,
