Need a little help, I took Thurs off planning on fishing the Helen H, As they are in the boatyard, I need a suggestion for a plan B. I have heard Walshs' mentioned before, are they running on Thursdays now? I went to their website tonight but it seems to be frozen, can't get any info. Any other suggestions for a day boat. Sea Bass would be ok too, just want to find my best chance to catch some fish.

Thanks,

hey,
Walshs doesn't run on thursdays. I know what you mean about their website, ever sicne they changed it it hasn't worked. Your only bet for codfishing would be the yankee fleet, but thats all the way up in gloucester, quite a hike for you. I don't think it would be worth it, they hasven't been catching much. Other than that, you could try a frances fleet overnighter, but it is on this friday, not thursday.
Talk to you later.

SR- You can try these two websites
www.yellowbirdcharters.com and
www.algauron.com
Both are scheduled to sail on Thursday.
Yellowbird sails from Newburyport just North of Gloucester and AlGauron sails from Hampton NH. The fares are $40 and $47 respectively. Both boats post reports almost everyday so you can see how they are doing. You can only keep 10 cod/haddock in combo on these boats as they fish the G.O.M.-but you can also get some cusk, wolfish, pollock, redfish to supplmnt that. From your house to Hampton will be about 4 hrs and to Newburyport maybe a little less. Its probably a little closer than the Helen H as you do not have to go as far east. Looks like the weatehr will be good this week with a strong S.W. kickin in as it does when it starts to warm up this time of year.As the water warms up more and more baitfish (herring and sand eels) will move in and we can ditch the bait for jigs and teasers only. Let us know how you do. I am going out on 4/26.

Morning Dew gave you very good information. Al Gauron is one of the best boat out of Hampton Beach, NH and the captain of the Yellowbird out of Newburyport, MA is young and works hard.
But based on the report I got, it might be still too early to fish the Jeffries. I leave for a fishing trip to Baja, Mexico on Thursday(04-17). If you can get a day-off in the following week, I think I can get you on a boat.

Bob,
Thanks. It'll be great to hook up with a 30 lbs yellowtail on a jig.
On my last cod trip on the Stellwagen Bank, I was impressed with a 9 oz nickel plated jigger from Solvkroken of Norway. As soon as I switched to the jig, I caught three 15 - 20 lbs cod in 10 minutes. Actually the action with the jig was better than the Angermann on that particular day. I am going to experiment more with the jig next time.

Cod

Red,
Don't know if you're looking to charter but we just came off a charter with Capt Ken on the Haley Elizabeth out of Green Harbor. Great boat and crew. See BHM25's report in the NY section fishing reports section. We had a blast. In the report you'll see we were right next to the Yankee Patriot of the Yankee fleet in Glouscter. It was packed to the gills and they were jigging picking away at smaller fish. We slaughtered them on bait (clams).

good luck - post if you get out.
