Tied to the dock or still up on blocks, I believe.

Just got back from a nice cruise to the Inlet - gotta try to keep the bottom clean between fishin' trips - and know what? Less boats out on the water on this gorgeous SUNDAY afternoon than one would see on a slow weekday.

I couldn't get over it.

Well, gas at over $4/gal, no flounder to speak of and only the pinhookers allowed to fish for fluke, is it any wonder that almost no one wants to head out?

I did see a few guys setting up for bass in the Inlet and a pair of partyboats were, aaahhem, drifting for "flounder" at the Meadowbrook and behind the West Bar up tight to the "brand new" Pt. Lookout beach. But other than that, nobody out there.

Its gonna be an intersting Summer, that's for sure.

best, Lep

Lower than normal number of boats

Hi Lep!

I am tempted to say that it is great that there seems to be less boats out there this year than would usually be the case. On the other hand, this is probably a warning sign for the fishing industry, and that, of course, is not good at all
. If this trend continues, then the bait and tackle shops, gas docks, marinas, and fishing stations are going to be struggling even harder to survive than they currently are. We all would have a hard time pursuing our love of fishing without this infastructure intact.

I am pretty much done feeding the evil doers the extra money they seem to justify in todays moronic media. In fact, i'm down right disgusted with alot behind what the whitehouse has demonstrated in this false strenghtening/strong economy. I'm sorry to tell it as I feel it. We need a responsible govn for fueling our wheels on lower emmission technology. As for now, each of us deserve what we get for supporting higher fuel costs and not investing enough R&D for independent clean safe ecological transportation infrastructure. Scienctist still must be scratching their heads as to where this highway is taking us. Staying closer to home this summer for the most part and reserving my coins for better times.

My brother sold his and has none and a guy on my job just sold his for a 25G loss and has none...so that's two less I can account for...I'm sure there will be lots of boats up for sale this year or tied to the dock, this way the yachts won't have to watch out for the POOR people on the water anymore.

LMAO, me and a buddy car pooled a 4 day trip to my secret spot upstate ny.. gasoline is going to destroy this economy at this rate! lol , i would not buy even the latest 4 stroke with gas prices soaring out of control like this. This country is in for some rough waves in the long.

Less Boats?

I have seen many more boats on the water where I fish. As the price of gas goes up the more boats appear. In fact there were so many today that I just gave up and fished from the shore, did not want to compete with em all. Still caught a few nice bass. Anyone wanna guess where I was fishing?

Yeah - NYC Water Supply - best Freshwater fishing in the state. I'm fortunate enough to live just up the orad from one of the resvs.
Seems like many of us ( me included ) will be doing a lot more freshwater fishing this year-this way we burn 0 gallons per hour - still catch a lot of fish and take home a meal or two as well.

Even Down Here

My wife and I took a ride Sunday morning to fish for some bait. I couldn't belive how quiet the water was.

I had said to the wife look at this, hardly anyone out and this was at 10:30 AM.

We are pushing 5 $ on the water here also.

Another thing I noticed was the size of the boats that were out, didn't see those boats with the trips on the back end or twins for that fact.

The past couple of weeks the weather sure has been crummy, that was until yesterday at about 2:00 PM.

Coincidently that is exactly when I took my boat out for a few hours and tried to hunt up some bass and burn up some old gas;). (I had better luck burning the old gas:rolleyes: ) I went into the Nissequogue River and checked out the new channel.

The dredging project seemed to do a good job as I went in and out of there at just about low tide with plenty of water to work with. It was very narrow, but plenty deep.

I went over to just outside Port Jefferson and then back to Crane?s Neck. The whole 4 or so hours I was out I saw very few boats out there. None were fishing the usual bass and flounder spots.

It got nice and warm, no wind, and the water was like glass, and I did see plenty of bait in Porpoise Channel. Some was getting pushed up, but being solo at low tide I couldn?t really fish it even without any other boats around.

When I got back to the slip the place was buzzing with activity. Lots of kids playing ball in the park, several folks cleaning and working on their boats but none seemed to be heading out.

It was a beautiful day.

most of the boats in my boat yard are still covered with shrinkwrap; I'm one of the few guys working on my boat consistently

I'm planning to siphon the old gas out of my tanks and start fresh...let's see 65 gallon tankage x $5 = OMG/WTF , better start rounding up my silver coins now

I took out some old gas and put it in my truck. :) I woulda used it for my lawnmower, but I sold that a few years ago to buy my boat. ;)

Many boats in my marina is still shrink wrapped also.
I woulda been in last week, but someone in my store quit and I had to look for a new employee.

I haven't even been down the shore but, I can tell you it was empty lands up by me which even the baitshop owner I been going to had declared. No we are witnessing something very bad for businesses far and wide. Good thing is we won't have to worry about the overfishing these days!lol
