i'm dieing to play around with my new fly rod. i'm new to the sport and just got my first fly rod this past christmas. i've been doing the practice( and freezing my ass) and would like to know if there are any flat's or any where i might be able to go to play? can anyone recomend where i might start?

Don't know where you are, but if you check some of the herring reports ( not this week, it's too cold even for the herring guys) and head for a beach near where they are getting herring, you can pick some up with the fly rod. Also the tidal trout streams on Long Island are still holding fish, and in less than 2 weeks the C&R season at Connetquot River opens and that is a sure thing, even I can catch some nice trout there ! ( be sure to crimp the barbs on the fly, catch and release only, no barbs ).

Try the mouth of the Nissequogue River at Sunken Meadow State Park or the small creek at Crab Meadow in Northport. Small white deceivers or clousers work well.I would wait until the temps. are above 32, Ice and fly lines don't mix. Good luck!

thanks for the help guys..
by the way i'm crazy, but not that crazy i wasn't planning on fishing in this weather, i'll wait a couple of weeks, hope fully it will warm up abit, but untill then i keep on practicing...
any other locations are greatly appreciated...
