Before I start to trim a blank I would like your advice. I've noticed in past topics you use the "sinker & rubber band" method to fine tune the feel of a particular blank. Do you trim the blank at the exact spot of the rubber band for the tip? And also, how about the butt end? Do you take the position of your hand on the blank as the reel seat and add on the lenght of your rear grip and mark that spot for a cut?

Thank you for your help.

I find the spot on the top of the blank that I like. I mark it with magic marker. I will cut about 1/2" above the mark and check how loose the tip top fits. Then i will cut back a little at a time until I have a nice fit, not loose BUT just enough room for epoxy to get into. You won't be very far off the original mark. A 1/4" won't make much of a difference.

Usually a customer will tell me how long he wants the rod after the tip is cut. So I mark and cut the butt end.
Then we lay out the grips and reel seat.

The way you described for yourself is fine. Just make sure you have the correct total length before installing butt grip.
