I've caught many, many skates this year on the North Shore, but very few on the south shore. If they are of decent size (more than 18" wingtip-wingtip), I'll keep them and let my dad go to work... The most catches have been between September and the end of October. Since the end of October, it has been really nice to have a fat blue and not a skate on the end of the line.
They yield a decent amount of meat, and the meat is tasty. And sometimes when you go to the super market fish section and buy those tasty sea scallops, you just might be getting some cheap skate.....
