Wow? I never expected this question, but here it goes.
I generally use lures but on a very rare occasion, I will catch skates. However, whenever I chunk for the elusive bass at said hole... that's when I will encounter those feisty critters.
Unfortunately I never kept a record of how many skates I?ve released (who does?). For the record, my most memorable skate was caught back in September of 1996 and it was a giant skate (over 100 lbs.) culled near the Sore Thumb / Fire Island Inlet!
In all honesty, I really never paid close attention to this fishery?maybe someone on this board could elaborate!
