This fish was scooped by my neighbor in Hawtree creek in the back of Jamaica bay. It was hanging around the pilings acting real slugish. After the picture was taken it was released back into the bay.

Can anyone I.D. this fish? My guess is some kind o snapper.

I think SummerBrz means Sanppers from the "lutjanus" family such as red snapper, yellowtail snapper, mutton, cubera, etc. More commonly found in southern waters. Not snapper as in bluefish. Also most fish in the porgie family have a V shaped Caudal (tail).

Look almost like an albino seabass.

his color is off, he doesn't look to happy, to me it looks like a freshwater fish, tilapia ? perhaps. this might explain his appearance and sluggishness. maybe someone released it recently ....

GOT ME STUMPED!

Looking at its tail and other fins, its neither a snapper or in the porgy family, nor a grunt. I would go with a talapia which it does look pretty close to....Togmaster, i guess its time to get ahold of Eddie Aquarium! Love to get the answer to this one.

I send and got a reply from the jump site!

Well I send the photo to the site which was posted above. The guy did reply but had to shut down his PC the hurricane was hitting him at the time guess he is LA? Here is what he wrote quote:

Looks like someone released a talapia. Possibly a mozambique tilapia. It certainly looks sickly though. Wind is howling and might loose power due to the hurricane so I am turning of the computer now.

Togmaster,

The fish did look kind of sickly. It's fins had a little rot on the ends.

Maybee I should have put it in my fish tank instead of letting it go. Or even better the frying pan.

If Opinari can't ID this fish I will try the TV show Unsolved Mysteries.

The condition

Maybe the condition of the fish was so bad we could not tell what it is? Like you said it looks like it is in bad shape. But the only other thing I could think of which has happened is people dump fish in sewers if they are getting rid of them from a tank for reasons? Maybe some dumped it into a run off or sewer and it made its way into the bay. Being it is possibly a fresh water fish that is the reason for its poor health. Well I got guys looking into it. But this is a great post got us all stumped love it!
