I fish for Blacks and Sea Bass with a 6'6" Penn Power Stick with a Newell 332M w/ 65lb Power Pro. Also use a 332M with 80lb Tiger Braid (dia of 30). I find the power pro is very thin and when it rubs the wreck it can break easily. I have caught many blacks over 10 pounds with this setup. It has a nice stiff backbone and a light tip to feel the bite. Rod is about $65.00 and you can't get the old Newell's anymore, you can find the old ones on Ebay but they can go for over $200.00

There is no one setup that will perfectly cover all of the bases, for all of the species you mentioned. I use a heavier rod for blackfish than I do for seabass/ling. If I had to pick one, it would be a Newell 229 with a Calstar 700L rod. This would make a good combo for many bottom fishing applications. The total investment would be about $330.
