I'm looking to go sharking sun. Leaving from the ct river to 15-20 miles off montauk in a 25' grady. The forecast says 1-2' sat. night and 1-3' sun-mon. Is this a good forecast or should i be looking for 0-2' max.
1-3 feet should not be a problem for a grady.... if you ask me it looks fine... but then you have to feel comfortable with your own skills and those of your crew with you. Hope you have all the safty equipment with you... Good luck on your trip
That's something i never thought of. With only a little time left would a pair of 5 gallon buckets do anything? I see your from old saybrook too, have you gone out sharking at all this year?
Sorry it took so long to reply. I have gone three times so far, caught 3 blues the first time, 1 blue and 1 small mako pup the second and 5 blues the third time. I was planning to go more often, but havent had the time. Good luck
Don't use a sea anchor while sharking. This ain't fluking, you want to cover as much bottom as possible in your fishing day. If you find fish they'll come to the boat, that's what the chum is for. You put out a sea anchor and slow your drift, you'll be depriving yourself of drifting over good bottom and chances at fish. Plus, the position of the sea snchor will probably change the angle of the boat to the drift to something less than the ideal.
I beg to differ. In a small boat when the sea really kicks up, it helps tremendously. When in a twenty foot boat, it can get dangerous drifting beam-to the sea. Yes it will change the boats drift, but it is worth the safety and comfort.
