I noticed a lot of recent fluke reports are mentioning water temps. What is the significance of this? I know when you start getting deep, surface temps do not really corelate with bottom temps. Whats up???

mocean,

I do not really understand your question. It may be possible that people are just supplying the temperature info. b/c it has been working consistently, and yes the temperature at the bottom and the top differ. During the summer the deeper water tends to be cooler and the opposite is true for the winter.

temps

Hey Somoan,
I know from diving that from surface temps, you can't tell a thing about bottom temps, (or currents for that matter). I guess I didn't understand why surface temps would corelate to fluke fishing the bottom. I guess most fishing is shallow enough, and inshore enough...

Mocean,

I saw those reports too. The only thing I could think of was that rather than using a Loran or a GPS to pinpoint a location, some anglers are using water depth and surface temps to try to navigate back to where they had a decent catch. Otherwise, I agree, what fluking information surface water temps hold in the middle of the summer is a mystery.
