The water temp. on my Lowrance X85 reads 5 1/2 degrees low. This was checked out on another boat at my marina. His unit in my boat and my unit in his boat. To make it short the problem is not in the unit. I'm assuming it is in the transducer (dirty?). What can I safely use to clean the face of the transducer? Anyone have any ideas as what else the problem can be?
Thanks!

hip,

you should test with a regular thermoniter you dip in the water, see who is really wrong

then i guess you can pop the transducer off the bracket and gently clean it without damage. if it is indeed dirty with marine growth

reinstall and check agnist home thermoniter with string attached

if still out of wack, contact manfacture via they web site and ask for advice

Roslynny,
Thanks for the comeback, I tried 3 different home thermometers and they read app. the correct temp. As I said, my unit and my friends unit read the same in my boat-5 1/2 degrees lower than my unit and his unit in his boat. Both of which read app the same as the home thermometers.I'm sure it is not in the unit. I had contacted Lowrance and they advised me of a procedure to reset my unit but it didn't work. I'll have to clean the transducer the best I can when I have the boat hauled and hope it works next spring!
Thanks again!

your welcome,

only trying to help

of course, now that you know the exact difference betwixt actual temp and the temp on the guage or readout, you could just ingnore it and add 5.5deg in your head everytime you look at the temp!

thats, the easy way!

i am sure after you clean the sender, it will give a good reading in the spring

good luck pal!
