The Twin Lakes Preserve in Wantagh, an extremely popular public freshwater fishery is being threatened by a controversy between the Town of Hempstead and New York State. According to published reports, the preserve, which is state land, has been maintained for years by the Town of Hempstead. They have done a pretty good job cleaning the place up, cutting the grass and brush and regulating activities there with Town Bay Constables.
The burden of maintaining state land has become especially significant in the current atmosphere of a tax conscious public. The Town is seeking compensation from the state. The state has refused and has said that they will maintain it themselves. Well we only have to look at Jones beach to see the states idea of "maintainance". The Twin Lakes will go down hill fast, neighbors will complain, access will be lost.
Maybe the state will suggest that it be turned into "TRUMP on the Lake".
If you value this fishery it's time to write or call the Town of Hempstead and the Governor and let them know how you feel.
