hey guys,
i'm gonna be in virginia beach for a few days in may and would like to know of any good party boats or charter boat that can be recommended. i am willing to drive to other parts of virginia. don't really care much for the striper fishing but would be more interested in say tog or sea bass(bottom fishing) or better yet pelagics(if they are in season). thanks!!!!--------->ronnie

Look into Capt. Jim of the Jill Carrie. During May he does some deep drop trips for Giant Seabass, Blueline Tilefish, and seabass. He also targets Spadefish at the Chesapeake Tower and those things look sweet. He's a charter boat that does some open trips so check the dates.

If he doesn't have openings that work for you, the VA Beach Fishing center has a headboat fleet and I'm pretty sure they're targeting seabass and/or fluke. (flounder) You might also want to ask them to set you up with a split charter.

Dont know if they are going offshore or not, but the party boats going from Rudee Inlet are reel nice. My experience with them has been the offshore trips on Saturdays during the winter, and these trips were great, easily limiting on large-jumbo seabass. These trips should be over when you are there. Have been there two times not going offshore and both times caught so many seabass couldnt count that high, but the keeper ratio was about 1 in 20. Had more than a dozen keepers (barely). Rudee Inlet also has lots of charter boats but these boats like those rockfish (stripers)

Rudee Inlet

Went out on a head boat out of rudee inlet a few years ago. It was for sea bass i think. I found it to be a very long steam out to the grounds...a bit more than 1 hour. Also the the supplied gear was really poor. Super heavy mono on a super stiff, cheap rod. We fished fairly deep and caught some short weakies and a few short sea bass. Given the size of the catch, depth, gear, and weight, you could barely feel any bite.

The crew did work to find a good spot but the bite was just off. Very few keepers. Still it was a decent trip for a reasonable price...Just bring your own gear.

JILL CARRIE

HI:
As above, this boat is a WINNER. The Capt will put you on fish and won't stop trying 'till you catch. U must have reservations. He doesn't run many walk ons so give him a buzz.
