I made quite a few of those Viking Nomans trips back when they first started. Those were some of the best trips I ever had, and where I got my largest fish 11.5 lbs. I remember guys filling up barrels and huge 150 qt. coolers with big blackfish. On most of those trips the action was wild, as soon as you hit bottom...BANG...BANG...BANG. Every cast you either pulled one up, lost your bait, or got hung up in two seconds. More recently I fished the Gail Francis out of RI. It is a a little longer car ride for me and a much shorter boat ride. The action can still get as hot as it was back then but not as often.
The past two days I have had great trips fishing on the Celtic Quest out of Mount Sinai. On Thursday I had 15-20 fish up to 7 pounds in less than 2 hours on one drop. Then I went back for more yesterday and had 25-30 fish. Luckily 4 or 5 guys weren't to sharp and only had a few fish when we slipped off the first wreck, most had there limit. So we went to a second wreck for about 45 minutes and the bite was wild, I released another dozen or so. Almost every fish was released on the second drop. The north shore blackfish season has been fantastic in general. On my worst trip I still had 7 or 8 fish and I have gone about eight times.
YO BLACKFISH!!!!!!!!!
