Hope I dont start trouble here but I was just wondering why when two different people are talking about something they dont want the rest of us to here they usually say go to "that" channel...their "special secret channel" lol. Are they unaware that most boats out there usually have at least one radio on scan? I know I do anyway...so much for super secret radio transmissions...

LOL.....that always did make me laugh.

Everyone has their little secret channels, so when thyey say "Go to the OTHER channel", it usually means down 2 or up 4........... of course the scan button is always good for finiding them out........

one thing the guys might be doing is going over to one of their expanded radio channels. I know of a group that use several expanded channels.

tell you i normally go to another channel because i keep getting steped on and cannot have a conversation and tell you the best thing i got was that radio direction finder

Ditto on changing to avoid traffic on 68. There is always some yahoo playing music or arguing sports. Make a connection and switch.

Some boats do use expansion channels, which is only slightly more private. It's not intended to be NSA secure, just a whisper as opposed to a shout.

It goes the other way also. Guys who are so secretive they won't tell you on weds where they fished monday. Sooner or later you figure out who helps you out there, and they get more intel than the ones who want to keep it all to themselves.

scanner worked fine on my prior boat

scanner picks up NOAA Weather, Skywarn?, aircraft, marine, CB, FRS/GMRS, FM radio and Ham frequencies anywhere AND I MEAN ANYWHERE, LOL. You'll hear lots of stuff hehe.
