Installed new vhf radio and new high end shakespeare eight foot antenna reception and transmission are fine now every one hears me and I hear them. My question is am I supposed to show a short when I test across the ground and center conductor of the pl259 connector? Is it this particular type of antenna? If not should I cut off and resolder connector? Or leave alone since working fine. Thanks for any opinions, danny

I had the same exact issue and went to Fred Chall with my continuity tester to double check another antenna. The answer is yes, when you put a continuity tester on the center of the connector (where you make the soldier connection) and the bezel ring you should get a complete circuit. I even cut the connector off on mine to test the inner and outer cables on the coax and still had a complete circuit. So, you got it right.
