does anyone know if that would be good for surfcasting plugs only. i will be wrapping it myself with fuji perfection guides. i usually fish the open sand beaches and an occasional trip to the mecca. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Take a step back and figure out what you are trying to do.

First, you didnt' like a blank number or rod model. I thought they stopped making Ugly Stick blanks years ago. Are you stripping a factory rod?
Second - guides are guides, Fuji is a company. IT's not like getting a Konica Xerox copy machine. FujiPerfection guides do not exist.

I think Captain neil offers rod building classes, and Steve Petri has a DVD on how to build a rod. You might want to look into those avenues before you wrap a rod.
