Going down there in a few months. Hear that the price of charters is crazy for what you get. Anyone know of any worthwhile charters? Or should I just pack a travel rod and fishing off the beach?

You have options

I've had some great bonefishing down there, but the few guides avaiable are quite pricy. you can go to leeward cove marina and rent a Carolina skiff for the day. There is some good fishing around the small keys near the marina. If you head over toward North Caicos you can find bones mudding on the banks and lots of cuda and jacks on the rockpiles. small lead head jigs with a 2 inch twister tail grub work well , tear off half of the tail.

I posted a report about Turks and Caicos that you can go back and read to get some information. There were quite a few good responses as well. Great place to fish but you have to figure out how to get on the water at an affordable price. Definitely bring a light surf rod.
