Hello, I am looking forward to my first Tuna trip in a couple weeks with Frances Fleet. I have researched the forum pretty well, and I think I am pretty well set on my tackle to bring, except for some trolling lures. Do I need to bring any trolling lures? Their website says to bring them, but I have read that some boats have them on board. If I need to bring them, what should I bring? Thank you in advance for your response.

Iliveoutside,
Welcome to Nor'east. Not an expert, but have been on enough party boat tuna trips to know that Green is good. Seen more fish caught on Green Machines than any other. Many shops will rig it for you for a few extra bucks. Better than the factory rigging. The boat may have some very good lures, but it's always best to come prepared. After the sickness has a really good grip on you, you'll have lots of colors. Purple and Black, Zucchinni.....
Mustad and Owner hooks.
Good luck on the trip, I'm sure others here will have more to add.,,,,,,Rich

Make two daisy chains, buy green machine in 6oz, and two or three mini green machines. Rig with 300lb big game and use a 9/0 mustad.

Also buy tuna clones in zuchini or similiar colors. rig 3 or 4 with 8/0 hook or smaller. Have rigs rigged as the mates may not have enough time to setup as they need their sleep on the way out.

I would have them two setups with possibly another green machine rigged alone as a bare minimum.

Pretty much what tunafever stated

I wound not be caught dead without at least 1 green machine dasy chain, and at least 1 Purple and Black jet head. Even though some PBs carry a few trolling lures, i always carry at least a few myself. Especially the way the bite has been lately. I would expect to do a "lot" of trolling.

Thanks guys, can anyone recommend a supplier to make up the daisy chains? I am in Michigan, so everything I am getting together for this trip I have had to order online or otherwise. I have ordered a Green Machine from Cabelas, but is just the single 9" rigged one. Thanks Again

Well, I wouldn't be a real fisherman if I didn't use this occasion as an excuse to buy some gear. Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I ended up getting a green machine daisy chain, as well as a single. I also got a tuna clone daisy chain, a mahi painted cedar plug, and a mahi colored cedar plug daisy chain. Not an "arsenal" by any means, but maybe I'll get a chance to use something. I have always found it more satisfying to use my own gear when possible anyway. Thanks again guys.

The boat has their own lures they will allow for patrons to use, but I strongly suggest you contribute to the "trolling lure donation" jar with a bit o' dough as the trolling lures they buy can get pretty expensive. If you do bring your own lures, I would ask any questions you have to the mates, as they are the ones who manage the spread.

Green is good. just a suggestion, chances are that GM you purchased rigged is going to need to be re-rigged. Most big tackle companies like that don't know the first thing about lure rigging and use cheap crappy hooks, leader, and crimps. so You're gonna want to re-rig that lure yourself. maybe someone on the boat can help you crimp it and everything. IMO dont even drop that lure in the water the ay it's rigged in case the "one" piles on it.
