We headed out Sunday morning at 2am in flat seas 38 miles out and started chunking butter and one outfit with a whole sardine. We had two knockdowns on the sardines but nothing on the butter fish. We had three hook ups on jigs and got one big fish near the boat but not close enough to gaff. As soon as he saw the boat it turned and took off and snaped the rig. We had 4 fish on but we just didn't get one in the boat. It was good experiance for me and I'm sure we will do better out there next time. I am not sure if the knots that my buddie was tying were strong enough or mabee theses fish were beaten us up. I had two guys with me and one was sick and the other just could'nt fight the fish to the end. I did get a good workout though.

I was using two Shimano 30 Tiagras and 1 Shimano TLD 25 all on short tuna sticks chunking. As for the Jigging, my friend forgot his dam accurates so we had two fish on his small Avet that is not sufficient for tuna by no means.

I have a Shimano Torium that I started Jigging with but no knocks. I will get a rod for my Torium so I am completely set-up. What type of knot do you recommend when tying on a jig to the barrel swivel and what knot for chunking. I totally relied on his knot and that might have been a part of the problem.

We held the tuna for a while but it broke off at the jig. It wasn't my Avet but it was a small one. This time and going forward I will be using Plomar and or improved clinch knots.
The Torium that I have is a 16 so down the road I get another set-up for myself just for jigging.
