PARTY BOAT TUNA

JACKSON,

THE RIG I USE IS BASICALLY 6-8 FT. PIECE OF FLOURO-CARBON LINE 40-80 LB TEST( DEPENDING ON CONDITIONS), 4/0-8/0 GAMAGATSULIVE BAIT HOOK, EGG SINKER & SWIVEL. YOU PUT MAIN LINE THRU EGG SINKER, TIE ON SWIVEL ( 150-200 LB)THEN TIE ON THE FLOURO-CARBON & TIE ON HOOK.

I SUGGEST YOU MAKE THESE RIGS BEFORE YOU GET UNDER WAY, BRING JIGS ( I USE CRIPPLED HERRINGS 10- 13 0Z)& SOME TROLLING LURES.

I HOPE THIS HELPS------WHAT PARTY BOAT ARE USING?

I have been fishing for tuna on partyboats for over 20 yrs.I agree with the info Spagsman gave you, here,s some
more.Try the Spro barrel swivels made of
stainless steel very strong for their
size.Take along a yozuri squid jig with
a ultra light spinning outfit, can't beat
live squid for bait.
GOOD LUCK.
PS I fish the GOLDEN EAGLE(BELMAR NJ)
Every Monday night departure for tuna.

right on with the squid jig--last weekend in the hudson I could only hook up with live squid no other bait at all did anything but, every live squid got whacked.By the way I picked up a big wahoo so dont be afraid to troll anything up to 20--yes 20 knots when you get out a ways.Just be ready to plead with the skipper to slow down or stop or you will not have any line left-
They had a great high speed rig in sw sportsmen.16-32oz trolling drail then 12-20' of heavy mono then wire then some kind of lure.almost anything will work but it needs to swim good at high speed..

tuna

I only fished partyboat tuna once, last September. My wife,Elsie and I fished on the Atlantis Princess out of Staten Island. It was a 24 hr trip to the canyon.I brought along my own rods that I pre-rigged at home.Well, they re-rigged them the way they do.Unfortunately, the only fish caught that trip was a 30" mahi-mahi.One thing that I do remember, was that we were using about a pound and a half of lead to keep the baits down.
Even though we got skunked that trip,we are planning to go again soon, possibly in a week or so.
Lots of luck to you.

Explorer

Just out of curiosity, why and how did you chose the Explorer?I just saw their ad in this weeks Fisherman, mentioning the tuna trips.I tried the website ,but it gave no info.I will phone them later today for info.****,Sheepshead Bay is a lot closer to me in Queens than Staten Island.
When you go,make sure that there are no bananas on board,a sure bad luck omen for fishing.
Good luck,
Pete

party boat tuna fishin

everything everyone mentioned is dead on, please dont forget the squid jigs , they could save the day, as for tackle dont go less than 80lb simply because
of tangles with other guys when your hooked up..please if you are tangled with someone working a fish, please wirk to help him out even if it means cutting and rerigging,
there are a ton of little things that can be done, but im noo lazy to type it all out,
