when I throw a dough ball in the water a trout will eat it in 2 sec but when its on my line the don't take it,does any one know why are they do that is it because they are shy of the line i'm useing 4 lb

4 lb. is good but is it mono?
Too easy to see put on a flourocarbon leader or maybe your hook is too big. If they can see the hook they won't bite

Make sure the hook is covered in the dough. Try not to expose any of it. Dough is not shiny like a fish hook, and therefor it is best if the hook is covered. Flourocarbon is also a good idea like chevy posted.

Try using some flurocarbon line. I bet you'll increase your hookup ratio.

Never had that problem before

Been Trout fishing all of my life and never had that problem, and i only fish for native Trout. All i use when Stream fishing is 4lb test Trilene XL. I think that the problem may be in the hook that your using. Use #8 Eagle Claw (model 181) with the bait holder. Tie directly to the hook (no leader). That should solve your problem.

I use 2lb Vanish Flurocarbon for trout. Small hook buried completely in the dough. Trout shouldn't be able to tell that from just a dough ball.

I've seen stocked trout do the same thing. I was wading in a pool and there had to be about 15 small trout my waders eating something out of whatever mud I was kicking up. They would take dough balls dropped in the water but not on a hook and line.
A worm for bait will sometimes work in those situations.

Are you using too much weight?The bait with a hook in it should have the same drift characteristics as the hookless.Baits that stop and sputter in the drift will often spook fish.
