NewLove, I troll with both for instant maneuverability and or backing down where I need to in a hurry with a nice hook up.....wouldn't risk alternate engine not starting when I needed it most
....too much prep goes into offshore trips to lose a nice fish for sumpting stoopit LOL.... also, I just have a thing for synchronicity with engine hours. :)

Why would you want to troll on one?

I normally run both when I'm in a cc but I could see running on one to save on fuel, noise, engine hours, etc. I've heard that fish rise for the engine noise, that may be true for inboards and diesels but I've also heard the opposite about outboards.

gotcha bally...

I could hop around on one leg too, but can't see the benefit there either.

Fuel savings would be minimal, at best. I'd rather two motors barely breathing than one working harder than needed.

When trolling you want maximum wash & noise, regardless of power. Especially for tuna!
I'd recommend you experiment w/trimming your outboards up/down to exaggerate your wake for maximum effect.

Twin outboards' wake will never be as wide & frothy as an inboards', but you can take advantage of the longer center wash by running lures staggered in close to it...

Depends on what you are trolling for.... If you are trolling tuna, you want both engines running and your tabs down to create a nice whitewash behind the boat.... If you are trolling for more of a speed sensitive reason ( stripers at 2-3 kt) then by all means shut one down to get to the speed you need....

Newlove nailed it. For tuna at 6-8 knots, I usually use both engines (outboards) because I get a more even white wash spread and clean water pockets. Sometimes I'll try one just to change things up a little. For stripers, one engine will idle me along at between 2-3 knots.

In rough seas I'll always keep the second engine running though to reduce the chances of a hydro-lock.

Here is your initial question... NewLove wrote:
When trolling (4-6mph) do you guys troll on both engines or do you trim one up and troll with a single. What is the advantage or disadvantage of your reply.

And your answer to your question...

The way you copy/pasted the info made no sense whatsoever, hence my post.

Did you miss the part where I made an honest attempt to answer your question to help you out? Don't worry, it won't happen again...

I'm thrilled you found all you needed to know about trolling via the Google search engine. And glad you took the time out to mention that tidbit after the fact, instead of incorporating it in your post. Doing so initially may have helped you look less silly.

Regardless, my above post still stands...

NewLove, I'm a bit handicapped here with only this laptop, most of my pics are on desktop...I had no shot of posting pics of my wake with my above posts...

Dunno if you can make out my avatar? It's a once in a lifetime double header mako ( not mine )...I know I sent it to many members when I first saw it...when I'm back at my desktop, I'll try to post bigger pics and the story that goes along with it

My post was all about being prepared for the unexpected...that's why we clear the inlet for the hunt with big grins and adrenaline pumping...

That's why I troll with both twins...always ready
