Hi guy's I was woundering how you use a wire line? is the spool filled with the wire or do you use a length of wire like a leeder so I can reach those bottom stripers

where to start ...
tough to answer. you need a special rod that can handle the stress of wire and a good reel too. they even make special rods just For bunker spoons. usually a top shot of 300 feet of monel over 40lb mono. wire should be marked so you know how deep u r .5'depth per 100' line any deeper u need to add led trolling sinkers. More wire won't get line any deeper it bends upward.Now trolling is a whole other post.......

A few corrections...
The correct sinking rate for wire is for every 10' of wire it will sink 1'.(100' of wire will sink 10',300' of wire will sink 30')More wire WILL give you more depth however guys usually load their reels up with a top shot of 400' of 40lb stainless or monel on top of mono backing.I prefer monel because it is more forgiving.(less kinks)If I need to go deeper than 40-45 ft I will add a drail sinker before the leader.The leader should be 60-80 lb test with a length of 12-20'.Usually for every 4oz of weight will give you another 5' of depth.A good snap swivel should be added to the end of the leader.It is a must to troll SLOW. Bass like it 2-3 knots,blues will hit 3-5 knots.If you are trolling spoons it is more important to watch the action of the spoons than your tach or speedometer.The rods should have a steady sweeping motion to them.Its also important to check your spoons every now and then for weed and eel grass.A piece of eel grass will stop any bass from touching your spoon.You will have to adjust your speed when you change direction because of the wind/current/chop.Too fast will make your spoons spin.
The rod should have carboloy guides or rollers and a good reel would be a Penn 113H.
When hooked up I put the boat in and out of gear to keep tension on the fish.If you leave it in gear lower the RPM's as slow as it will go.It is not necessary to set the hook and you don't have to pump the fish.I keep the rod at a 10 o'clock position and keep reeling.

Another thing...
I forgot to mention rods.Most guys will tell you spoon rods should be long,8-9'. I started years ago with 6 1/2' ST.Croix rods and they were very productive.A few years back I purchased 7' Seeker rods which I find awesome.To get extra spread between your spoons we use rod riggers.They go in your existing rod holders and your rods are in them in the laying down position pointing outward extending your spread approx. 8-12' depending on the length of your rods.Attach safety lines to your reels incase they fall or get pulled out of the holders.

There isn't much to add to what B.Attitude told you in his very detailed post. The only thing I can contribute is that I often use a rig with 40# monel spooled on a Penn 500 Jigmaster for shallower trolling and the 113H with 60# monel for really deep stuff. Good luck.

Thank's for every ones help This message board is great full of infomation every one helping one another What I have right now is a Penn 302 LW with a K-Mart special boat rod Next year I'll have to give my wife the wish list Ha Ha
