Kil, I know that the trinidad is one of your favorite jigging reels, so I figured you would be the authority on this, How much OTI Depth finder PE8 will i pack on it and How should I set it up

1. top shot ?
2. leader ?
3. what kind of line for either
Sorry for all the questions im new to this, I'll be fishing of a partyboat and it will be matched with Gusa Wahoo J.R. composite acid wrapped rod.

if i were to do this (and I'm about to spool a brand new ocea 4000p), I would put a 10-15' leader on top. i am going to use 80lb. currently im using the Fisherman Shock Leader brand, which isn't fluorocarbon, but I've used Varivas FC, Seaguar FC, Blackwater FC, etc etc. Use the leader you prefer - but anything more than 15' or so is not needed.

not to hijack this thread, but i've seen guys have problems with YGK.

But what Peter said has good merit - PE line can be expensive to fill high cap reels with, putting 100yds on top is a nice cost effective choice.

braid to braid best knot i know is uni to uni but i rarely do it so there may be other people.

braid to leader i use PR or mid-knot. however there are easier to tie when sitting on ones chair or couch rather than quickly on a boat. i'd tie one of those before you go....if you break off and are jigging then there are a lot of things that work. spro swivel, uni-uni, etc. honestly i think PR and mid knot are easily the best, i love those knots.

I prefer Trinidad 40 as it has enough line capacity and narrower reel is better for jigging.

1. top shot
I highly recommend to learn how to tie Mid Knot or PR knot.

2. leader
I don't use long leader. I mostly use 12 - 15'. Once my leader get shorter than 10', I retie it.

3. what kind of line
Do you mean leader line ? I use 80 lbs fluoro barbon leader line though it doesn't make any difference most days whether you use mono or fluoro. When tuna become picky daytime, I go down to 60 lbs.

Ocea Jigger is better reel than Trinidad. I reallylike the handle of Ocea Jigger 4000P/5000P, but you can get service from Shimano as they are Japanese domestic products.
