I have been fishing the South Shore beaches for 30 years. I must say that lately the West End II area from the tip of the jetty to the construction dock is disgusting! Field 6 isn't much better, but at least there the park cleans the beach.
Not all but many of these folks that fish the WE II beach area have very little respect for this area and they leave mountains of plastic bags, water & beer bottles, lawn chairs, trash and fishing line to trip over. They keep shorts, drop sea robins and skates down in between the rocks for them to die and they are turning a once beautiful area into a stink hole! Green Island has become a hang out for drinkers and slobs. If you say something to them you get a dirty threating look.

Why must people leave their garbage laying around? You take out what you bring in. Where is our State Park department enforcing the rules?

I am getting frustrated with this mess. Where else does this problem exist?

Adopt a beach Great Idea

Adopt a Beach is a Great Idea! I know for a fact that many of these "slobs" read these threads, maybe just one of them will finally get it and take out what they bring in!

Write or call the Commissioner of State Parks

Write to the Commissioner of State Parks, Bernadette Castro at:

NYS Office of Parks,
Recreation and Historic Preservation
Bernadette Castro, Commissioner
20th Floor
Agency Building #1
Empire State Plaza
Albany, NY 12238

Or call her office at 518-474-0456 and complain! Tell her that we want signs posted in all fishing areas that we have spoken about. These signs should include littering, fishing seasons and fish posession limits. These signs must be posted in a multi-cultural format. And also complain that currently the law is not being enforced! Has anyone read the Newsday article regarding the increase in garbage at out area beaches? Bernadette Castro is responsible for our parks. If it's not a state park then I would call or write to the local officals. Also send them pictures if possible.
