The Crossbay Bridge area and the jetties at the Rockaways are all in shambles. Trash, fishing line, and pieces of bait make it smelly mess.
Trashing the South Shore Beaches!
I have been fishing the South Shore beaches for 30 years. I must say that lately the West End II area from the tip of the jetty to the construction dock is disgusting! Field 6 isn't much better, but at least there the park cleans the beach.
Not all but many of these folks that fish the WE II beach area have very little respect for this area and they leave mountains of plastic bags, water & beer bottles, lawn chairs, trash and fishing line to trip over. They keep shorts, drop sea robins and skates down in between the rocks for them to die and they are turning a once beautiful area into a stink hole! Green Island has become a hang out for drinkers and slobs. If you say something to them you get a dirty threating look.
Why must people leave their garbage laying around? You take out what you bring in. Where is our State Park department enforcing the rules?
I am getting frustrated with this mess. Where else does this problem exist?

I carry garbage bags with me and make sure people see me cleaning up.Maybe it works ,maybe not,but not a wasted effort.
I believe "WE" all need to open our mouths when we see this behavior happening, maybe if the slobs are told enough times they will think twice before leaving thier trash, or taking shorts and just being dis respectful.
I have a question for you what is with the "creations" on the beach at Green Island(the upside down signand that big branch shoved in the sand)and if you have the energy and time to build these things why can't you take it down and throw it out after you are done? Or did this person just figure the water will eventualy take down his creations and wash them out to sea, Maybe thats what he is hoping for this log to get run over by a boat and ruin someones day on the water...... AAAAAAAHHHHH whatever

I have "adopted" about a 200 yard section of the beach near where I live and fish. I clean that up about four times a year and make sure people see me doing it so that they may get the idea. Some do get the message and comment on it, obviously others do not or I would not have to keep doing it ! It does make me feel a little better about at least doing something besides complaining. The "adopt a highway" system seems to help clean the roads where it is in place, maybe we should extend it to "adopt a beach" , "adopt a dock", etc, and commercial outfits could donate to groups like the Boy Scouts or other community groups who would actually do the cleaning. I know that once an area starts to go downhill, it usually gets bad fast. People do not hesitate to trash an area that already has a lot of trash.
If everyone just picked up one piece of trash each time they visited an area, it would make a big difference and start the trend in the right direction.

this problem is everywhere these people can get to, so they can chuck clam bits and keep every bass and black they get their hands on.they leave for dead any other thing caught along with their piles of crap.they play dumb and you have to get out of their way.they've taken over places at times and have zero respect for the natural resource they're using.i don't go to the water for confontations,but this is getting ridiculous.from here on in i'm using my cell phone to call authorities, and i am going to explain the laws to them regardless of cultural and language barriers.

gottafly green island is on the south side of the third wantagh bridge. Access is by taking the wantagh parkway south to the toll plaza where you would exit to the right. The parking area is a couple hundred yards further up. Be advised you need either a NYS four wheel drive permit or a NYS night fishing permit for legal parking. you can buy the permit at any NYS park office but only between sept 1? and april 30. g

ON our way home from out east,we decided to give the ponquogue bridge in shinne**** a look.And all I see is garbage,garbage garbage & more [email protected]!#[email protected] garbage.And a family of about six ,camping out with a large tent ,lanterns,& bar-b-q's. I'm just curious,is this a loud.I just don't understand, they build this beatiful fishing pier,for every one to enjoy,and they just trash the place.& their's even garbage can's on the way out.This place has to be the worst by far.

East Patchogue boat ramp
Used to go to the boat ramp and see people crabing there and leaving there plastic chicken wrapings every where.
One problem is not enough trash cans. If you dont see a can around take your garbage home with you.
