Anybody here use it? I am aware that we cannot use the same paint that we use on the bottom of the boat.

If you do use it, have you found that it helps? Or do you feel that it may hamper the signal?

Also, has any of you ever "spiked" any of your electronics during starting. I knew the possibility existed and since it surfaced in a conversation w/someone the other day I started to think about it.

At the dock my engine is always turned on first b/f the electronics. But when I am fishing, I constantly have the electronics on and always start the engine (i.e.: to start a new drift etc).

Should I be that concerned? It seems like it would be a real pain to turn off the units to just power them up again 5 seconds later.

I'm no authority...but my marina uses the same bottom paint on the transducer. They don't cover the flat front (facing you) part of it. I have not experienced any problems with the strength or accuracy of the signal. Regarding the electronics, initially, I power up first then plug in the electronics. Once I'm out on the water with the engine off, all electronics are still on. I don't shut them off when I power up again. I haven't had any problems with shorting out the rest of the boat. Just my experience.

There is a transducer paint. I buy it at boaters world but I'm sure they all carry it. It has not effected my reception, but it has not neccessarily helped me catch fish either. Seriously though it comes with this tiny brush and it is a Pain in the a&& to apply.

One bottle of the transducer bottom paint will last you many mant years

MikeDemo, how big is your boat/transducer that it's a pain in the ass to apply? You just brush it on it takes 12 seconds, you need the small brush in the cappy thing it comes with to coat the little bugger.......

FTRAV, it's not that it attacks the poly,

The reason there's different or special paints for transducers is the copper/alloys & other ingredients in your average bottom paint will effect the the signal.
or so I was told LOL !

Transducer and Bottom Paint

Dont use any solvent based paints, they will disolve the Head unit material. Here's a few paints that you can use: Interlux-Ultra coat,Pettit-UniPoxy,Super Bottom Coat,Fiberglass Bottom Coat.I use the the Pettit-UniPoxy. What do you mean Electronics spike? They shut down and start up?
