Which one for jigging school tuna up to 150# (average of 60#) on a private boat-- 60# Spectra used--

Torsa 30
Trinidad 30
Torium 30
Torque 200

Will be matched with a Trevala jig stick or a lighter Calstar blank--

The Torsa and Torque are both very nice reels but they don't have a cast control knob which I really like, I consider myself a pretty good caster but both were prone to backlash, at least for me anyway. Torium and Trinidad are basically the same reel, Trinidad mainly has a better clicker system, better looks, and is more expensive. For the money the Torium is a good value, I own a couple 30's which have both landed their share of Tuna and cast well, it's relatively light, and very smooth. I have them rigged with 500 yards of 65# power pro with a 50# top shot, so far on average size tuna I don't think I've been half way into the spool. There have been reports of the anti-reverse failing but I've never had an issue. I think if you just slam a star drag reel into gear when line is flying off at a high speed with heavy drag you could have problems with any reel.

I'm looking into buying one of those Accurate 665's, a little pricey but it looks like it has everything you could want in a jigging reel and the reviews have been outstanding.

TORIUM NO GOOD

I'VE ONLY OWNED 1 TORIUM AND IT WAS A PIECE OF JUNK. DEFINATELY SPEND THE EXTRA CASH AND GET THE TRINIDAD. ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS WITH THE TORIUM FROM ANTI REVERSE TO DRAG ISSUES (STICKY). HAVE A FEW TRINIDADS AND NO PROBLEMS THEY ARE GREAT REELS. THE TORSA IS ALOT OF MONEY AND THE MAIN DRAW IMHO IS THE INTERCHANGEABLE DRAG SYSTEM WHICH I HAVE NO NEED FOR. I HAVE HEARD GOOD THINGS ABOUT DAIWA AND OWN SOME ACCURATES AND AVETS AND LOVE THEM TOO. THE NEW AVET HOO X IS A 2 SPEED AND IS ONLY ABOUT 400 BUCKS.

I would go with the Trinidad 30 or even better yet the 40. Another great choice would be the saltiga 50. If you can you should step up the braid to 80lb test to be on the safe side. Toriums are notorious for blowing up on people when the antireverse goes on big fish or when using heavy drag. Most people prefer star drag over a lever when jigging as you have to constantly freespool which boots out the Torsa. The torque I personally do not like the Torque for tuna fishing as I feel the handle is a bit uncomfortable for me. It seems a bit short in my opinion. I would go to your local shop and try out these reels and see how they feel and balance on your rod

665 2 sp is the best small light reel out there. ive got an 870 and love it, but want a 665.

out of the reels you mentioned - it depends on your price. i mean yeah a torsa is great, but its a **** of a lot pricier than a torium or trinidad. troiums have weak anti-reverse according to just about everyone who has really put it to work. try a saltist or a saltiga.

don't get a trevala rod for those fish....you'll thank me.

If you are willing to go into the price range of the trinidad, you will really appreciate the Saltiga. I like the trinidad, excellent reel, but the Saltiga is just superior in many ways. The best reel I have used with a high retrieve that seems as powerful as some lower retrieve "power" reels. I have used them side by side a few times and really, no comparison!!

Not on your list, but I would look into a Saltist 40 ($150) with the 4.9:1 ratio and upgrade it with Carbonex Drags ($20) and side bearing ($8.).

For less than $200, you will have a good tuna jigging reel that will hold plenty of 60-65lb spectra (80lb would be my min choice), cast well, and can put out over 20lbs of drag.
