I had the honor and opportunity to visit Kil's shop/office today. And might I say it was a pleasure to hang out with Kil for a few hours, one on one Boy, I wished my work office looked like that!!! It was truly a "Guy's Candy Shop"
And the more time we spent there, talking about fishing from Fluke to Giant BFT, I kept picking more things off the shelves to buy! :)

A few observations -

The 500g JM Power Spell rods are all business. With a parabolic bend, Fuji components and a drag rating tested upto 27kg (59.4lbs!
), I feel like this rod can catch any fish in the ocean VERY strong and LOTs of backbone, but surprisingly it still bends! AND Nicely! I might add!

The 350g JM Power Spell rods are fantastic. They have a GREAT big parabolic bend and you could tell that it would be comparable to some 400g-450g rated rods from other companies, simply due to it's shere strength in it's backbone. Still, even after holding the 500g JM, the 350g rod feels like you would have no problem bailing in ~60-70lb AJs all day with ease.

Another rod I noticed which was very nice and more "economical" was Kil's 350g JM Terminator series rods. Surprisingly, this "cheap JM model" still had plenty of bend as well as the power and backbone to sustain the added stress....MUCH more than a Shimano trevala series rod...

The St. Croix blank that Kil made into a tuna jigging rod is just rediculuous. The entire 7'9" blank weighs 6oz and if you wanted to cut it down for jigging, I think it drops to 4oz Reel nice blank with a nice, smooth bend. St. Croix has got a good thing going with this blank...Looks pimp too, the blank color is a metallic cobalt blue.

Heru poppers - I know where I'll be buying my poppers from here on out. Period. The craftsmanship, finish and quality of these lures are down right amazing. They make different style poppers and stickbaits in different weights and I believe most (if not all) are under $30!!! Sweet!!! I would buy a 100g Cubera Heru Popper over a Yozuri Surface Bull GT without a second of hesitation.

The Jigging Master accessories are all very nice and practical as well. Their fighting belt is light and adjustable; you can orient it so that it sits low near your knees or raise it so it's up near your hips...good idea JM! The rod tip protectors have lots of cushion and room for multiple rods. Even the rod belts have lots of thought into it as well (;))!!! I picked up a Jigging Master Pliers Pouch and it fits my Duel GT pliers like a glove. Tough, ballistic nylon material with a belt loop as well as a D-ring clip.

I also picked up a JM 45mm Power Knob for my Stella 8000FA and I swear, it looks like it came out of Shimano's factory that way The colors match perfectly and the "round" knob feels better for jigging (IMO) than the factory "oval" knob.

All in all, it was a great little visit that ended with a delicious italian seafood lunch! Thanks again Kil! I've PMed you with my next order already

Sounds about like my afternoon, except instead of hanging out in a shop with some killer jigging stuff, I spent mine babysitting and changing diapers with brown things in them.

ewwww
This weekend was fun. Saturday I went to APS with Glenn and Nick and today I spent a few hours at Kil's shop. The bank account is going to hurt tomorrow lol.

I have to admit, it was pretty cool seeing Kil getting a call on a sunday afternoon from Basil Pappas out of the blue.
And it was pretty funny that Basil called right after Kil told me he spoke to Dennis Braid yesterday on popping for GTs. Basil's call was about Kil's conversation with Dennis :)

Brian, I should hire you as a saleman. :)
After you left I met another customer. He was looking for jigging rod for cod and tuna and I didn't hesitate to recommend a conventional jigging rod as I know the rod.
After spending 5 hours for two customers I was a little tired, but I was really happy to provide them what they want.
My two fishing buddies visit my shop in the evening and we had a dinner together. They told me they envy me as I can enjoy what I am doing. Yes, I feel I am very lucky man. :)

kil, congrats. what are your hours, generally? When I don't go fishing, I usualy stay by 9:30 pm. :)
I had another customer today and we talked about fluke, offshore seabass, steelhead and tuna fishing. It is fun. he was shocked how easy to tie Mid Knot which I demonstrated in front of him.
Funny thing was I asked him to send a check later because I don't know the prices of items he picked.
When I get a bigger room which I asked buiding manager, I am going to install big screen to watch jigging and popping stuff.

Kil, you're working your way towards a one-stop shop. Where else on the planet can a client stop in, have his taxes done and buy a jigging stick? :)

Dick,
That is easy. You are retired from law practice and I am following you. :) I am semi retired and I take care of only old clients. Most of them like to play golf, not fishing. :)

tax deduction

Kil,

I'd like to get hooked-up on a giant deduction. You'll have all my business if you can help me figure out how to deduct tuna fishing and jigging equipment.

david

ps- when is the website going live?

David,
That is easy one too.
Open a jigging and popping shop in MA. I can help you.
I need fishing trip to test lures. :)

If I didn't go fishing, the website was done already, but nothing can stop me going fishing. Fishing first and business next. :)

Congrats and best of luck, Kil
. This is going to be one helluva shop, I am sure of that
.

As I live on L.I., I was just curious, any chance you'll go online with your shop,so those of us who aren't local to your shop can still purchase your products?

It is www.jignpop.com, he's off to a good start but it doesn't seem to be finished yet. Building stores on line take alot of work and time. Good job Kil
