The general rule of thumb is? Stay away from Full and New moon phases and a few days after MAJOR storms.
Here are the reasons why? The Full and New moon generally means STRONG CURRENT and the BAD STORM water (fresh water snow & rain spills) will generally shut the bite down!

Also, boat positioning is almost everything?. There are reasons why sharpies tend to get there early to stake out their favorite (stern, mid-ship and bow) posts.
