I know the best way to go is to have a rod built for me but my pockets are not very deep. I'm looking for a rod for tog fishing. I hope to be going out on some trips in Dec and Jan to 17 fantoms. The only deep water rod I have is an old bamboo cod stick that a dear friend of the family left me when he pass away.
So basically I looking for a store bought rod. I assume that it will need to be able to handel 40lb mono and 10 to 14 oz lead.
Any suggestions?

Hi,

Rodprof suggested a great rod!

You are welcome to test fish any of my demo rods. I have 3 or 4 for blackfish. This is NOT to try and sell you a rod. It is simply an offer to loan you a rod for the trip.

For something with a little more sensitivity

Try a Shimano Calcutta CL730MJA.

Also will double (Triple?) as a dynamite bass eel drifter and diamond jigger. I've caught bass to 35lbs, blues to 16bs and big hog tog on this rod. Handled them all with ease. A little long, at 7' for a private boat, but puuurfect for a head boat.

Quality approaching a custom stick, and at $199, less than half what an equivalent custom would cost.

Goes great with a Newell 229 or 235.

And made right here in the USA in the Washington-state Loomis plant for parent company, Shimano.

Hi John,

I haven't seen any locally. Check the B&T's near you and check ads in fish mags for anyone advertising Lamiglas.

I build on the blanks and my customers love them. Lamiglas builds a very good rod.

www.lamiglas.com I think you can order the rod directly from them. If not im sure they have a lsit of lamiglas dealers in the new york area. I have a place in westchester where you can order lamiglas rods from a bait and tackle shop. Let me know if you want his name and adress. Hope this helps Chris
