SealTeam6....tilefish are aggressive feeders and literally any bait such as skimmers, squid and especially strip baits of bluefish, skate, will work.

More importantly and this has been documented by many fishermen, is adding a large glow bead(s0, or cylume sticks next to your baited hooks. It really does make a difference, and fishermen who regularly tile fish buy these glow accessories and add them onto there tile rigs.

Key thing is to have you hooks on the bottom, since tilefish rarely rise any distance off the bottom to take a bait. They have been caught jigging by a number of people, but with the best tile fishing occuring in water depths of over 500 feet, it is best to use a bait that stays on the hook as the vessel you are on, drifts along.

Tile Bait

Small whole Squid or Skimmers produce well as does fresh strip baits from Fluke, Bluefish, Silver eel's. I usually tip my Squid or Skimmer baits with a strip of fresh meat from any of the above mentioned baits. Fish a two hook rig 7/0 - 8/0 on two heavy duty 3 way swivels. Spool up with 65 lb Braid with a 50 ft topshot of 60 lb pink ande and you'll be in business
