Yep!! Absolutely!!!

Also good for bluefin tuna trolling, broadbill swordfishing in the Canyons, deep dropping for tilefish, and when you get home, ask nicely and it'll whip up a mean fra diavolo.

O.K., I made that last one up. No reel can actually cook.

Yet.

O.K., seriously now, this is an IDEAL reel to use for light bass plugging, any type of flukin' and other such light-duty applications.

Not appropriate imo for chunking, drifting eels or surfcasting.

Not enough reel for those jobs.

But used within its limits, its a G-R-E-A-T little piece!!!

best, Lep

I really needed just such a reel for fluke and Scup mabe even see some use worming bass charters on the little boat.
I hope they hold up to the riggers of charter life. but for 33 bucks what the heck

Im gonna buy or build some light and stiff graphite sticks to match up with them

As my Siciliano grandfather used to say . . .

"Salsiccia his own."

I own a few Abu refurbs from ffo.com - all look as new and work beautifully. As I'm told the many that I've recommended to others over the years on this site do as well. . .

Did you have some bad experience with Abu products, Darth? Because in my experience with my own and with maintaining/rebuilding/upgrading for others its nearly always a matter of giving them the love they require. Properly cared for, they seem to last forever.

Same with any other reel - be it Shimano, Daiwa or just about anything else out there.

Except Newell, of course. Those things just seem to run forever with almost no care. Maybe they can magically heal themselves?

I agree.I've bought 4 "refurbished" Abus from FFO last year and after recieving them I stil can't find one flaw in any of them. They come looking pristine and new.
And have caught a few decent fish also :)
For the $ you can't go wrong.I have nice setups for kids n guests and myself

All my Abu's locked up. I know I fish em hard, but all my other reels are fine(except for my Shimano Calcuttas). Also, all my Abu's need to be taken apart religiously. Just too much maintenance and down time for me. I sold em all on E-Bay awhile ago. I got good money for it so there is a big Abu fallowing. I just never got on the band wagon I guess.

if I get

1 season there great, for the money anything over 1 is a bonus

even newells get mangled the graphite is brittle in the cold and when put in inexp. hands bad things happen . Good quality low price thats the ticket .That way when it craps out its gets tossed out.

anything returned to the mfg. and then resold must be marked refurb
It could have been a bent handle or scratch that got it returned
so refurb really dosent mean much

Actually Pete I disagree with the Newell comment. I've had quite a bit of trouble with my 338.

My two Abu 6500's have been like charms for 10 years now, only routine maintenance, i.e. cleaning, grease and oil.

I look foward to using my new little acquisition, despite the fact Capt. "Hund" dissaproves of my use of Abu's.

The best Newells are those that are NARROW and SMALL. The larger and wider they get the more finicky they will be.

The Newell 220 is one of the best and most forgiving reels ever made, period. They are the only reels I've ever owned that can perform well with not even a freshwater washdown. The 220s are the only reels that can thrive on this abuse. They are that good.

Anything Newell 300 are larger can be riddled with frame alignment and bearing problems. I obviously like the 220, next step up look at a small Torium or maybe Avet MX

Alex, haven't you figured it out?

Capt. Hund diapproves of you using Abu reels because he feels you are not yet worthy.

Just ask him what's on his best casting rods.
