Maddening, isn't it?

We have one set of reports that would send us into the slopes to the ne of veatches looking for albies on the troll, but with no chunk bite. And if you miss the patch of water they are playing in, there really isn't much else to do/target in that area.

Or we have another report that is promising for a night chunk bite at the hudson, but with no day troll. All other recent reports from there were disappointing.

So what to do? Roll the die for a chunk bite, or for a troll bite? Either way, there is no plan B save the early morning troll in both cases.

Neither report is particularly worth chasing without some backup. I guess pick the closest, most promising water and hope things have turned on. Unless of course you know someone you trust who's been out.....

Champ or chump, it's still fun (though champ is much more so).

Doug I might take a run this weekend. Water looks promising from mid grounds and further SW. I think I still have your number but shoot me a PM if you are going. Ill make a decision friday when see the weather. Dont think we will have many more opportunities so worth a shot.

There are a couple of breaks out there. The 5:30 ocean temp report as of today shows a 2 to 3 degree break 40 to 50 clicks west of the tails in the middle grounds and a little south. The tails has 70 degree water and I saw some 68 and 69 earlier yesterday there as well. Next one is around the dip 71.9 to 74.3 and then in the hudson as well.

We are trying to decide whether or not to go for the albies in the tails early and head west for an overnight in one of the breaks towards the hudson (for the yellows and hopefully the elusive big eye) or to just steam right to the dip and work betwen there and the hudson. We will base it on the reports that come in from the charter boats over the next couple of days and follow the water as well!

The one thing I can say is we are preparing to cover ground if necessary! This year has been so whacky...so if there are fish being caught friday to saturday, we are gonna work as hard as we can to find em!!

id run to the middle put them in work to the dip or id just run to the 100. I think its the 100. Unfortunately to put lures in at the tails puts you 40 miles from the Hudson. does anyone have reliable Intel from the 100sq area or the Hudson.

Not many boats fish that far east, but there is no reason you can't catch yellowfin and/or bigeye out there. Plenty of boats have done it this year. You don't hear a lot of reports from out that way simply because not many boats make the trip.

A lot of good ideas here. Maybe Boonebird can give us a report before the weekend. Given the water has cooled in some places and the fact that there are no current reports (yet), any or all of them could be right.

Tentatively, I think I'll run to the Tails and then back to the Dip if there is some action there and nothing at the Tails.

Going overnight, where, not sure yet on friday to saturday. Trying to set a gameplan and getting varied reports from knowledgeable fisherman. Waiting for a friend to come back from a 2 day trip tomorrow morning and looking forward to that report.

I will post what I hear as soon as I hear something. I am hearing thusfar:

Hudson Canyon/Jersey - Except for Bluefin, Dead. Occasional big eye still around, but no sustainable yellowfin or albie bite on the troll and almost zero on the chunk.

Tails - No report ( good or bad ) whatsoever.

East - Atlantis / Veache - Some reports before the storm of albies and a couple big yellows, but nothing since.

Point is, there should be some reports coming in over the next day or two. Whether they are good or bad, lets try and communicate with each other to find some action this weekend!!!

Like I said, have some friends out on overnights as we speak and will update what I hear later tomorrow.

At this point we are planning to head Blindly to the Hudson Friday into Saturday. Only because the East Canyons are out of reach for us and we have nothing else to go on.

Plus we would actually like to go Fishing.

Lots of albies in the tails this past weekend. Many boats there with 5 or more albacore. No yellows that I heard, but the albie bite was pretty good.

650-675 on the top number and in between 325-400 on the bottom. Heard guys west of us getting them up to the 450 line, but we stayed east and fish we caught were all around the 345-360 bottom, 650 on top! 68-69.8 degree water.

They were in pretty thick, especially if you compare it to any other time this year, so I would bet those numbers will be active for a little bit!
