When I saw the title of your thread I was tempted to write, "Do it, you will almost consider selling your boat ! " -- then I saw you already had, lol. I bought a Hurricane Aquasport Phoenix 14 from The Dinghy Shop in Amityville, three years ago. I use it more than my boat. Including everything, paddle, pfd, seat, rodholders, anchor trolley, dry op, dry bags I still got all new for under $1200. Its about 54 pounds empty, but much easier to tote than a canoe of the same weight, a consideration that I had being 155 lbs and 5'8" tall. I got it in bright yellow, another consideration if you are near motorboats. My paddle is a Mitchell, around $150 I think. Generally, the longer the yak, the faster and better tracking. The Dinghy Shop put the rodholders and anchor trolley on for free, as long as I bought them at the shop- couldn't beat that deal. Jim and Susan Kohler run the place and are fine people.
